Next Generation Mongolia: Nurturing the Future of Theatre

Since its launch, ASSITEJ Mongolia has been proudly running the Next Generation Programme, a dynamic platform designed to nurture, inspire, and empower emerging and professional Mongolian artists working in theatre and performing arts for young audiences.

Every year, ASSITEJ Mongolia issues an open call, inviting artists to submit their projects, ideas, and creative concepts. From these applications, 5–10 participants are selected to collaborate, experiment, and co-create during a dedicated period. Through workshops, rehearsals, and shared creative processes, participants develop their skills, expand their artistic vision, and gain hands-on experience in creating theatre for young audiences.

One of the core strengths of the program is how it encourages and inspires young artists to innovate and create, preparing the foundation for the next generation of theatre makers in Mongolia. Participants work together to produce final performances and projects, showcasing their creativity as a team and leaving a lasting impact on both their peers and audiences.

The program also opens doors to the international stage. Many participants have taken part in Next Generation programs abroad, gaining global exposure and bringing Mongolian talent to international networks. These experiences not only enrich the artists themselves but also contribute to the growth and evolution of the Mongolian theatre community.

At its heart, the Next Generation Programme is more than a residency or showcase—it is a launchpad for creativity, collaboration, and innovation, inspiring artists, empowering youth, and shaping the future of theatre in Mongolia and beyond.
